Christmas at Promise Lodge

GENRE: Inspirational Romance (Amish)

BLURB:

Promise Lodge's first wedding is cause for celebration—but the bishop's narrow-minded wedding sermon doesn't sit well with the Bender sisters, especially widowed Mattie Schwartz. She believes marriage and family aren't the only important gifts God gives--even if she suspects her tender feelings for Preacher Amos Troyer run deeper than simple friendship. Amos hasn't given up hope that stubborn, spirited Mattie will change her mind about taking another husband, but when an accident threatens to change his life forever, he wonders if the Lord has sent him a message. He'll need faith, hope, and charity to find the right path—and a Christmas blessing to convince Mattie to walk it with him.

Mattie smiled, watching her two sons and the dog enter Noah’s white frame house. “I’m so glad we came to Promise Lodge,” she murmured to Amos. “So glad we risked buying this property so we’re no longer living in Obadiah Chupp’s shadow. If I’d still been shackled to that farmhouse in Coldstream, I couldn’t have given my boys plots of land where they could lead lives of their own.”

“You’re an innovator, for sure and for certain,” Amos agreed. “And the best thing I ever did was sell my place and come to Promise with you and your sisters. I feel like my life and my efforts matter now, as we build houses for our new neighbors. The land is like a paradise and the air smells cleaner—”

“That’s because I showered this morning,” Mattie teased.

She faced Amos, loving the way his laughter eased the lines time had carved into a masculine face weathered by the elements and life experiences. Her life would’ve been entirely different had her dat allowed her to marry Amos Troyer when she was young instead of insisting she take up with Marvin Schwartz, who’d come into a farm with a house on it. Amos had been a fledgling carpenter without two nickels to rub together.

At fifty, Amos was five years older than she but his strong, sturdy body showed no signs of softening with age or heath issues. He was a man in his prime, and he’d made no bones about wanting to marry her now that both of their spouses had passed. Sometimes Mattie was on the verge of blurting out a yes when Amos talked of getting hitched—and then memories of Marvin’s abuse would come rushing back to her.

No, she wasn’t in a hurry to take on another husband, another household. But if she ever did, it would be with Amos.

My review:
I have to be honest when I say this is not at all what most of the books I read are like. i generally go to the opposite end of the spectrum I guess you would say. I generally choose Ghosts,, witches, demons, murder, and stuff like that. So I find myself in a whole new Genre and I have fallen in love. This is actually the 3rd book I have read by Charlotte Hubbard. I have read the first book in this series and it hooked me pretty much on page one. I couldn't wait for this book to come out so I could get my hands on it. Now after reading it I am waiting again. I cannot wait for Charlotte to give me more of the people and their lives at Promise Lodge. This book left me with more mysteries then any of the actual mystery books I have read.

In this the 2nd installment of the Promise Lodge series it starts off exactly where we were left in book 1. With Noah and Deborah getting married. At their wedding the Bishop demands all unmarried men and women to get married, boy did this set a fire in some of the people living in promise lodge. Some were not happy at all. This is a new order of the old order, and being single is not a bad thing to most of the residents. Then a horrible accident happens, and the whole community comes together to help their injured friends and their families. Christmas is on the way and the love of everyone in this community is so wonderful they will all make it through and have a wonderful Christmas. I cannot tell you all of the twists and turns of this book or there will be no reason for anyone else to read it. But I will tell you if you get a chance grab this book and clear your calendar for a day or 2. Once you open page one you won't want to set it down. The end of the book will leave you begging for more, to find out who the new person is and how he will fit into the lives of the community and lets see who is next to say I do.

I love all the characters in this series new and old ones alike. I love how promise Lodge is coming along and growing with each book. Charlotte has a way of breathing life into these characters, and convincing you these are real people in a real place. I love how she does not bore you with over detailing. Every word in her book is meaningful to the story. I love how this book leaves a lot to the imagination as well. and it is not filled with sex and "bad" words. There are a few hot kisses but that's as far as it goes. This is a set of books my very religious mother will enjoy, and I will be buying these books for her as they are printed, I have already bought her the 1st book and she very much enjoyed it.

Now Miss Charlotte you must get on with book 3, I cannot wait to see how everything turns out.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Many moons ago—like, in 1983 while she was still a school librarian—Charlotte Hubbard sold her first story to True Story. This launched her into writing around seventy of those “true confessions” stories over the years, and she’s been a slave to her overactive imagination ever since. Over the course of her writing career, she has sold nearly 50 books—most recently, Amish romance series she’s written as Charlotte Hubbard or Naomi King.
Charlotte lived in Missouri for most of her life, so her Amish stories are set in imaginary Missouri towns. These days she lives in St. Paul, MN with her husband of 40 years and their Border collie, Ramona.
